Vintage 1970s Bob Mackie & Ray Aghayan Bonwit Teller Heavily Beaded Evening Gown

Before achieving standalone fame as the "Sultan of Sequins" and dressing icons like Cher, Bob Mackie partnered with his life and design partner, Ray Aghayan. This combined clothing label represents the earliest period of his career, specifically dating from circa 1969 to the mid-1970s.

DETAILS OF THE GOWN

- Features a dramatic, plunging V-neckline supported by a sleek halter strap that beautifully frames the shoulders and collarbone.
- The bodice transitions smoothly into a sweeping column-style maxi skirt, giving the gown a statuesque, elongated silhouette.
- The gown is constructed from a delicate creamy beige silk chiffon, the top layer with a metallic gold lame floral design.
- Oversized floral burst motifs feature fuzzy, chenille like cream borders that contrast beautifully with the metallic fabrics, creating a unique 3D tactile quality.
- The entire gown is densely hand-embroidered with thousands of metallic gold glass bugle beads. These beads are arranged in strict vertical columns to mimic pinstripes between the floral motifs, maximizing light reflection and fluidity.

Condition: The gown is in excellent museum quality condition, no missing beads or beads falling off; no stains, no holes, no open seams, no missing or loose snaps / hooks, no alterations. I had it professionally dry-cleaned which cost over $150. It will be meticulously packaged so it does not wrinkle in transit.
